Michael Hopkins was born in Red Wing, MN and spent his early years in Hastings, MN studying theater, music, television, and magic. From 1990-1994, Michael attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in Theater and a minor in Broadcasting.

In 1994, Michael moved to New York City and joined Entertainment Tonight as a Production Associate and quickly rose to Associate Producer before leaving in 1996 to concentrate on field production.

From 1996-1999, Michael worked as a production manager and field producer with RumJungle Media in Minneapolis, MN. During this time he traveled the country covering tornado and flood zones for ABC and NBC News and produced feature stories for Access Hollywood, Extra and Entertainment Tonight. Hopkins also collaborated on the award winning management documentary 'FISH' and produced the International Greenland Expedition's adventure documentary 'Polar Quest.'

In the fall of 1999, Michael returned to New York City and Entertainment Tonight's production company Global News Service. During his seven years as field producer he covered entertainment stories for Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, ET on MTV, and ETonline.com. He directed on-air talent, conducted interviews with network talent and industry experts and spent the rest of his time on film sets and red carpets as a celebrity translator.

In 2006, Michael founded Hopkins Media Group to tell remarkable stories in innovative ways. Recently he produced digital content for American Express, Dove, InStyle, and Samsung.
